A 39-year-old Holdrege man was taken into custody early Monday morning following an extended standoff with law enforcement. According to the Nebraska State Patrol, the incident began Sunday night when officers from the Holdrege Police Department and the Phelps County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic assault at an apartment in the 300 block of Nobes Street. The suspect, identified as Lucas Barrow, reportedly barricaded himself inside and was believed to be armed. After securing an arrest warrant, authorities requested assistance from the Nebraska State Patrol SWAT Team around 12:30 a.m. Negotiators attempted to persuade Barrow to surrender, but he refused to come out. After several hours, tear gas was deployed, prompting Barrow to exit the residence around 5:20 a.m., at which point he was arrested. He was later booked into the Phelps County Jail on charges including assault by strangulation and third-degree domestic assault.
