Orville Duane Mankle passed away at Community Memorial Health Center November 11, 2024.
He was born December 16, 1933, to Charles and Edith {Oertley) Mankle. Orville grew up in Princeville, IL, then when he was 11, they moved to Mallard, IA. He quit school prior to his senior year to help on the family farm. He was drafted in the Army in 1953 and was stationed at Fort Benning GA. While serving he fought in the Korean War. He served for 8 years, receiving an Honorable Discharge April 30, 1961.
He married Doris O’Neall on December 30, 1952, while on leave from the Army at the Presbyterian Church in Plover, IA. Into this union 4 children were born Nick (Gloria) Mankle

After his discharge from the Army, he managed the Coop Elevator in Plover, IA. He moved his family to Rockwell City, IA in the summer of 1972 and managed a grain elevator until 1974. When he moved Broken Bow, NE to manage Pirnie Bros Elevator, then moved to Sargent in December 1974 to manage the Coop Elevator in Sargent. He then took over Sargent Feed and Grain in July of 1985 and managed it until his retirement in September of 2001.
Orville enjoyed gardening, golfing, hunting, fishing, playing cards, camping with his camping family and following his grandkids’ activities.
Orville joined the Sargent Volunteer Fire Department in 1979 and served as an EMT until 1998. He served the Sargent City Council from 2000 to 2008.
Orville was preceded in death by his wife Doris (O’Neall) Mankle, parents Charles, and Edith Mankle, In-laws Herold and Helen O’Neall, Infant Great Granddaughter Leilah Mankle, and Grandson Wayne Pribnow.
Memorial Services will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024, at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church in Sargent, NE. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Sargent Fire and Rescue. A visitation will be held on Thursday evening, November 14th, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the United Methodist Church in Sargent.
