In Hall County, Nebraska, the Grand Island woman charged with deceiving individuals in headstone transactions has requested a change of trial location.
Per legal records, Kelli Lepler’s legal representative submitted a motion on Tuesday seeking to relocate her trial.
The defense contends that due to pretrial publicity in Hall County, a fair and unbiased trial would be unattainable, potentially leading to prejudice against Lepler by a jury.
Lepler stands accused of accepting payments for headstones but failing to fulfill the orders. She is currently facing 45 charges of theft by deception and has entered a plea of not guilty.
