Evelyn M. Kusek, 95, of Ord passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, November 6, 2023; at Grandview Assisted Living Center in Ord.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 13, 2023; at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Father Mark Maresh will be the Celebrant. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Church on Sunday beginning at 4:30 p.m. The Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s School or the Family’s Choice.

Evelyn Mae was born November 27, 1927, in Valley County, Nebraska to Stefan and Barbara (Suminski) Papiernik. She attended Manderson Country School in the Vinton Township and graduated from Ord High School in 1945.
After completing Normal Training, Evelyn taught school at Hillside and Highland country schools. On October 8, 1947, Evelyn was united in marriage to Adrian A. Kusek at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. They were blessed with three children, David, James and Charles. The couple lived and farmed all their married life on the farm north of Elyria, near Fort Hartsuff.
Adrian passed away on November 18, 2002. Evelyn continued to live on the farm until moving to Grandview Assisted Living Center where she has made her home for the past 12 years.
Evelyn enjoyed farm life; raising chickens; and had a large garden that she used for canning and feeding the family and helpers quite well. She was an excellent seamstress and loved to quilt with the ladies for church projects. Evelyn was a 4-H leader and served as President for Woman involved in Farm Agriculture.
Evelyn was a devoted member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister; and a very active member of the Altar Society at Ord and St. Mary’s Church at Elyria. She served on the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women on the Diocesan level for many years. She also participated in Cursillo, Marriage Encounter; led rosary groups; and was a volunteer librarian at St. Mary’s School.
Survivors include two sons and two daughters-in-law, David and Helen of Ord, James of Ringling, Montana; and JoNon “Joni” Mrs. Charles Kusek of St. Paul; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a sister, Elva Shonka of Grand Island; a brother and sister-in-law, Don and Janet Papiernik of Beatrice; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Adrian; a son, Charles; and great-grandson, Paul Hill.
