Dorothy Jean Brockman, 85, of Burwell, Nebraska died September 30, 2023 at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 7, 2023 at the First Congregational Church in Burwell, Nebraska. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell. Pastor Alan Petersen will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the service at church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the First Congregational Church Kids Club or the Burwell Fire Department. Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell is in charge of arrangements.
Dorothy was born June 7, 1938 in Burwell, Nebraska to Harley and Emma (Krisch) Jurgensen. She lived in Burwell her entire life. After high school she married Richard Brockman on October 7, 1956 at the Lutheran Church in Burwell. Richard was in the Army and then they returned to Burwell where they started farming, which they continued their entire life. Dorothy’s jobs consisted of the Lech’s Variety Dime Store, the Meat Packing Plant, the Calamus Country, where she was a waitress that always had a great time joking with the customers. Her job she was known best for was the thirty-two years she spent working at the Pump and Pantry.
Dorothy loved her yard work and all her flowers, poultry and birds. She was a member of the Buzzin Duzzin Club. She loved their monthly get togethers. She also used to be on the weekly bowling ladies league. On Saturday nights when the Legion Club had dances her and Richard never missed a night of cutting the rug. They also were in a card club. She loved to have fun. Dorothy was a great mom and grandma, a great cook and she loved to decorate her yard for all the holidays and was known for their yard full of Christmas lights.
Dorothy is survived by two sons, Denny and Robin Brockman and Duane Brockman of Burwell, Nebraska. Two granddaughters, Brittany and Shane Gideon and Bridget Brockman and Wade Casteel of Burwell, Nebraska. Three great-grandsons, Braydon, Brecken and Brigham Gideon. Siblings, Ron and Carleen Jurgensen of Kearney, Nebraska, Doc and Lois Jurgensen of Gretna, Nebraska, and Sheryl and Bill Holt of Callaway, Nebraska and a sister-in-law, Ina Jurgensen.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings, Ken and Vonnie Jurgensen, Harold and Verna Jurgensen, Harley Jurgensen, Jr., and Jerry and Eileen Jurgensen.
