Ronald Gene was born April 13, 1950, at Burwell, Nebraska to Charles and Freda Wynona (Brewer) Marshall. He was a 1968 graduate of Ord High School. While in high school Ron excelled at track and set many records.
Ron was drafted into the United States Army in January of 1969. He served in Vietnam in the 1st Calvary Division. His time in Vietnam lasted 366 days and his dedication earned him a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Silver Star. He returned home in January of 1971.
While making his home in Grand Island, Ron worked at Redman’s Mobile Home Manufacturing, Union Pacific Railroad and Monfort Meat Packing. He was united in marriage to Lynnette Mason. The couple was blessed with two daughters, Amber and Lindsey.
In 1987, Ron moved to Fort Morgan, Colorado where he worked at Sterling Beef Plant. He returned to Grand Island and was at Chief Industries until his time of full military disability in 1990.
Ron purchased a home in Loup City that he enjoyed renovating along with fixing up his old cars; and was the local weather observer. In 2011, he moved “home” to Ord when he purchased his dream home that was down the road from his childhood home. He spent many hours landscaping and working on his old cars.
Ron was a sports fan who cheered for the Raiders; played basketball; and especially enjoyed watching his grandkids’ activities. He listened to music and also had a daily routine of reading the morning newspaper and visiting with his daughter, Amber. Ron will be remembered as one who “lived their best life”.
Survivors include two daughters, Amber Ross and his “#1 son-in-law”, Ryan Ross of Cozad and Lindsey Marshall of Grand Island; five grandchildren, Owen Ross, Samuel Ross, James Ross, Camila Garrett, and Lu’Vaa Garrett; and many good friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Rex Marshall.
