Robert L. “Bob” Frye, 95, of Ord passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2023; at Arbor Care in Ord.
Mr. Frye’s wishes were to be cremated. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 10, 2023, at the Ord Memorial Chapel. Inurnment will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the Cottonwood Cemetery at Burwell with Doug Durre officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Ord VFW Post #7029 and American Legion Post #38; and Clifford Clark American Legion Post #298 of Burwell. Memorials are suggested to the Ord Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Robert L. was born January 3, 1928, at Ponca City, Oklahoma to Robert W. and Addie (Hart) Frye. The family lived in Grand Island then moved to the Valley County area when Bob was 5 years old. He received his education at Goodenow Country School and graduated from Burwell High School in 1945, where he played football.
Bob attended college at Lincoln before he was called to serve in the United States Army. He served for over a year and was stationed in Japan with Company I Motor Battalion; performing duties of Platoon Sergeant in the motor pool for Generals during the crime trials.
Following the service, Bob returned to the family farm south of Burwell and farmed with his Dad. On May 27, 1950; Bob was united in marriage to Dorothy A. Ruzicka at St. Paul, Nebraska. The couple lived on the farm until they retired and made their home in Ord.
Bob enjoyed visiting and working with his friends and neighbors; and telling stories about his time in the service. He spent many years helping Leo Wolf with auctions and loved attending personal property sales.
In his younger years Bob made his own race car and later restored a Model A car which he was very proud of and enjoyed driving it in parades. He was a past school board member at Goodenow School.
Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Dorothy of Ord; a son, William Frye of Pierce; a daughter, Joan Coleman of Sun City, Arizona; three grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Darrell Frye; and two sisters, Darlene Anderson and Virginia Britton.
