Joann A. Pierson, 93, of Arcadia passed away on May 9, 2023; at the Brookestone View in Broken Bow.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 15, 2023, at the Arcadia Methodist Church. Pastor Ray Berry will officiate. Burial will be in the Arcadia Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the funeral on Monday at the Church. Memorials are suggested to the Arcadia Fire and Rescue Department, The Arcadia Township Library or the Gathering Place. Joann was born August 5, 1929, to H.A. and Gladys (Williams) Masters at home on the family farm north of Arcadia, Nebraska. She was raised in rural Arcadia and attended District #34 school through the 8th grade and graduated from Arcadia High School in 1947.
Following high school Joann went through Normal Training and taught at Riverview School for two years. On Oct. 12, 1950, Joann was united in marriage to Gerald E. Pierson at the Congregational Church in Arcadia. The couple lived their entire married life in the Arcadia area, where they raised their family and farmed.
Gerald passed away on December 19, 2014. Joann continued to make her home on the farm until 2021, when she moved to Brookestone View in Broken Bow.
Joann was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, reading, crossword puzzles and bird watching. Music was one of her favorite pastimes; she enjoyed singing and listening to Lawrence Welk. Joann’s grandchildren were the most important part of her life.
Survivors include two daughters, Terri Pierson and Lori Pierson, both of Arcadia; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Conn and Donna Pierson of Arcadia and Robert and Jean Pierson of La Vista; four grandchildren, Andrew (Johnna) Pierson, Cami (Matt) Skaggs, Nikki Pierson, Zachary Pierson (Cherie Mulroy and her two boys, Dylan and Ben); six great-grandchildren, Jettlyn, Maxton and Everett Pierson and Kyler, Cole and Cade Skaggs; a sister, Joyce Ritz of Broken Bow; a sister-in-law, Ruth Apperson of Broken Bow; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gerald; and a brother, Clinton Masters.
