Dorothy Marie Schneider, 96, of Burwell, Nebraska passed into her heavenly home September 14, 2022 at the Valley County Health Systems Hospital in Ord, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 19, 2022 at the First Congregational Church in Burwell, Nebraska. Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery. Pastor Alan Petersen will officiate. Visitation will be 5 – 7 p.m. Sunday at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. Memorials are suggested to the First Congregational Church or the Burwell Legion Auxiliary.
Dorothy was born February 17, 1926 to William and Rosetta (Lakin) Gaukel. Dorothy graduated from Burwell High School in 1943. After graduation she taught school and she also worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot in Hastings.
Dorothy married Antone “Tony” Schneider on January 25, 1946 in Belleville, Kansas. They made their home in the Kent Community where they farmed. Tony died on November 8, 2009.
Dorothy enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, flowers and especially time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always kept the cookie jar stocked and enjoyed keeping the farm cats and birds fed. Dorothy was a member of the First Congregational Church, where she served on the Diaconate, the Legion Auxiliary and the Kent Korner Klub.
Dorothy is survived by four children, Jean and Henry Dunbar of Lincoln, Nebraska, Bob and Jeanine Schneider of Rawlins, Wyoming, Duane and Peggy Schneider of Burwell, Nebraska and Gayle and Bernard Dunbar of Comstock, Nebraska. Seven grandchildren, Julie (Lawrence) Packard, Jeffrey (Mathilde) Dunbar, Zachary (Desiree) Dunbar, Kristal Dowse, Daniel (Natalie) Schneider, Nicholas (Beth) Dunbar and Tanner (Brianna) Dunbar, and fifteen great-grandchildren and four sisters-in-law, Patsy Gaukel of Burwell, Nebraska, Nan Gaukel of Valley, Nebraska, Emily Becker of Broken Bow, Nebraska and Irma Rief of Burlingame, California.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one granddaughter, Kari Schneider, two brothers, Harry Gaukel and Bill Gaukel and two sisters, Doris Wilson and Genevieve Udell.
