Jay Dee Tetschner, 79, of Burwell, NE died on April 15th at Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell, NE. JD was born on March 12, 1943 in Omaha, NE. He attended rural schools in Garfield County and graduated from Burwell High School with the class of 1960.
After graduation JD entered the Navy and was honorably discharged on his 21st birthday. Most of his Navy time was spent on the USS Steinaker as an MM2 and was active in the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a lifetime member of the Taylor VFW and a longtime member of the American Legion Post #298.
JD worked road construction for a few years before starting his own construction business. On September 29th, 1971 he married Darlene. In November 1972 they were blessed with a daughter Julie who was his favorite deer hunting partner. Together they revamped the old Blueberry Hill Truck Stop into J and D Sport Shop which they owned and successfully operated for 16 years. After selling the business he worked for M and R Cattle Company then took the job as the Garfield County Weed Superintendent. He retired in 2017 after 16 years of service.
JD was a nature lover and spent many days hunting, fishing, and trapping. Predator control and weed control were high on his priority list.
Survivors include his wife Darlene Tetschner, daughter Julie Tetschner, step-daughter Lisa Swisher, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Lola Tetschner, and a brother Lanny Tetschner.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell, Nebraska. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell. Pastor Alan Petersen will officiate. Visitation will be Monday form 5 – 7 p.m. at Hitchcock Funeral Home. In-lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to 4 the Cure, Burwell Legion Post #298, or the Burwell Fire Department.
