Simon D. Walkowiak, 87, of Ord passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2022; at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 18, 2022; at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. The Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Father Mark Maresh will be the Celebrant. Inurnment will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. Military Honors will be presented by the Ord VFW Post # 7029 and American Legion Post #38. Memorials are suggested to the Ord Fire and Rescue Department or the Valley County Museum. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Simon DueSee was born May 22, 1934, to Peter J. and Clara M. (Sintek) Walkowiak on the family farm in the Fish Creek area of Greeley County, Nebraska. The family moved into Scotia where he received his education and graduated from Scotia High School in 1953. While in high school Simon was very active in FFA.
Simon served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956 as PFC and was stationed in Japan. Following the service he returned home and began working for Orel Koelling. On May 28, 1960, Simon was untied in marriage to Garnett Ann Zmrhal at Ord, Nebraska. They moved to the family farm west of Ord which they later purchased. Two sons were born, Jerome and Michael.
Simon farmed and worked for area farmers since he was a boy. He loved the farm life and was good with his hands and making things. He spent time moving hay, buildings and houses on a stack mover.
In 2014, Simon and Garnett moved from the farm into Ord. In 2010, the couple celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Simon was a very busy person and was always there to help someone. He will be remembered as the best and most loving husband and father.
Simon enjoyed gardening, flowers and planting. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, BetterLife Dennice #14 Lodge , Ord Elks Lodge, and a 50+ member of the VFW Post #7029.
Simon was the recipient of the Honorary Chapter Farmer for FFA and many farm conservation awards.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Garnett of Ord; two sons, Jerome DueSee Walkowiak of Ord and Michael Anthony Walkowiak and his significant friend, Leslie of Omaha; three grandchildren, Taija and Mark Golden, Cheri and Dan Roland and Michael J. Walkowiak; and four great-grandchildren, Layla Walkowiak, Gianna Golden, Mack Golden and Maverick Roland.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Edwin Clines.
