Donald “Don” Lee Foster, 82, of Ericson died Monday November 15th, 2021 at Valley County Health System. He resided at Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 19, 2021 at the Ord Christian Church in Ord, Nebraska. Burial will be in Kent Cemetery. Pastor Doug Durre will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 – 7 p.m. at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. Memorials are suggested to the Kent Cemetery or the Heartland Youth Ranch.
Don was born November 8, 1939 in Horace, Nebraska to Harold “Jake” and Luella Foster at his Grandma’s House. He attended grade and high school in Ericson. After attending school Don went to work for a construction company. Then he moved on to working as a hired hand for the Pitzer Ranch. During this time Don met the love of his life, Beverley. They were married on March 23, 1963 in Taylor, Nebraska. In July, of the same year, Don joined the Army and was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas after completing his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Texas. After being discharged in 1965 he went back to working on the Pitzer Ranch. Don started hauling hay with a tractor and later with a chainstyle truck. He was working for Dick Doggett which he continued to do for five years until going into partnership with Dick. Then they ran together and they became very good friends through this. In 1995, he bought a gooseneck trailer and did trucking down every road ever traveled. He also owned a lawn care business until 2014 with his family. Him & Bev drove a bus route into Ericson for many years for Wheeler County Schools.
Don was a member of the Ord Christian Church. He accepted Jesus as his savior and was baptized with his daughter, Candi at their country church. He served as a board member and board chair for the village of Ericson for 28 years. During this time, he was the mayor of Ericson.
Don enjoyed spending time with his family, owning anything John Deere, eating out and sharing stories of his past with others.
Don led a full and rewarding life of 82 years as a husband, dad, grandpa, great grandpa, trucker, friend and Santa Claus.
Don is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bev Foster of Ericson, Nebraska. A daughter, Candi Kohlhof of Columbus, Nebraska. A granddaughter, Courtney (Cole) Ziemba of Columbus, Nebraska. A great grandson, Camden Theodore Lee Ziemba of Columbus, Nebraska. A son-in-law, Bill Kohlhof of Columbus, Nebraska and a daughter, Barb (Leonard) Bell of Burwell, Nebraska.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ronnie, in-laws Earl and Minnie Lewis.
