
Donald R. Zebert, 75, of Ord passed away on Friday, October 29, 2021, at his home in rural Ord, Nebraska.
Mr. Zebert’s wishes were to be cremated. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 6, 2021; at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. Father Scott Harter will be the Celebrant. Military Honors will be presented at the Church by the Ord VFW Post #7029 and American Legion Post #38. The family will receive friends on Friday at the Church beginning at 6:00 p.m. and the Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Donald Ray was born January 27, 1946, at Ord, Nebraska to Adam and Mildred (Timmerman) Zebert. He spent his childhood in Valley County where he attended District #30 Country School; St. Mary’s Catholic School and graduated from Ord High School in 1964.
Following high school, Don did carpentry for Bud Ballou. He enlisted in the United States Army and served in the 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War until he was honorably discharged in June of 1968.
On February 27, 1971, Don was united in marriage to Mary Ann Risan at Ord, Nebraska. Don spent his entire life living in rural Ord and farming his own ground. He also drove a truck for Gaylord Boilesen, and farmed for Dave Van Nordheim. He spent many of his working years as a tractor mechanic at S&M Equipment and Mid Nebraska Machinery. Don also worked at Koch Industries, Ord Feed & Supply and Farmer’s COOP until his retirement.
He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church; VFW and American Legion.
Don loved fast cars. He enjoyed attending Veteran’s reunions, spending time with his family, visiting and telling stories.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann of Ord; a brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Kena Zebert of Grand Island; nephews and their families, Richard and Tracy Ries, Jim and Becky Ries, Tom and Jennifer Ries, Brian Zebert, Daniel Zebert, Dave Zebert, Alan and Mary Svitak, Russell and Deb Svitak, Mitchell and Mindy Zebert, D.J. Tuning, Doug Tuning and James Tuning; nieces, Sandy Ries, Becky and Bill Schutz and Kristen Zebert; and two sisters-in law, Donna Ries and Jack Bennet and Evangeline and Vern Svitak.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, David Zebert; a brother-in-law, James Ries; and two nephews, Trevor Jorgensen and John Zebert.
