
Lumir Emil Hulinsky, 74, of Lincoln formerly of Burwell passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 13, 2021, at the Ord Memorial Chapel in Ord, Nebraska. Michael Hulinsky will officiate. Burial will be in the Bohemian National Cemetery West of Ord. Military Honors will be presented by the Ord VFW Post #7029 and American Legion Post #38. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the ZCBJ Lodge #112. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
He was the fourth son born to Mike Eldon and Alice Marie (Bruha) Hulinsky on November 26, 1946, at Burwell, Nebraska. He grew up on a farm five miles southwest of Burwell attending rural Komensky School, District 49, in Valley County and graduated from Burwell High School in May of 1965 as the salutatorian. He held the discus throw record from May 1964 to April 1978 at Burwell High School.
Lumir graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University at Lincoln with a Bachelor of Science in August, 1969. He was a member of Zeta Psi Fraternity. Lumir married Connie Jean Pesek at the Ord Methodist Church on July 27, 1968. They had no children. He enlisted for the United States Army draft in September of 1969 and took his basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana. His advanced training was at Brooks Army Medical Hospital in San Antonio, TX with his on the job training at Fort Riley, KS as an Operating Room Specialist. His tour from October 1970 to September of 1971 was at the 121st Evacuation Hospital, Korea. During his tour, this major hospital was relocated from outside Seoul into the city of Seoul, Korea. He received a distinguished Certificate of Achievement during his tour and was discharged with the rank of SPS. Lumir was member of American Legion Post #3 in Lincoln for 49 years. Lumir and Connie Jean enjoyed being members of the Nebraska Czechs of Lincoln.
Lumir worked for the Richman Gordman Department Store in Lincoln from 1971 to 1984 working his way up to the position of Assistant Store Manager of Operations. From 1985 to 2007 he worked for Nebraska Game and Parks Commission at Branched Oak Lake about 25 miles northwest of Lincoln. He concluded his working years at the Hy-Vee Grocery Store at 84th and Holdrege in Lincoln until August of 2010.
Lumir enjoyed fishing, especially two trips to Canada; keeping his mind active by doing the daily crossword puzzle and word scramble in the newspaper. He loved watching and feeding the birds and squirrels. He had a special place in his heart for two adopted cats, “Handsome Kitty” and “Buddy”.
He is survived by his wife, Connie Jean; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Vincent and June of Burwell and Raymond and Virginia Hulinsky of LeMars, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Hulinsky of Grand Island; nephew, Timothy Hulinsky of Wolbach; niece, Janet Martinez of Wolbach; nephew, Stanley Hulinsky II of Ord; niece, Wanda Durant of Grand Island; niece, Rachel Holder of Alda; niece, Pamela Davis of Waverly; niece, Vicki Mauler of Sargent; nephew, Kevin Hulinsky of Burwell; nephew, Roger Hulinsky of Lincoln; niece, Donna Koch of Garner, NC; nephew, Michael Hulinsky of LeMars, IA; niece, Sarah Malone of Orleans; nephew, Joseph Burson of Aurora; nephew, Chad Burson of Central City; and nephew, Christopher Burson of Kearney.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank George (F. G.) and Lillian Ruth (Ruzicka) Pesek; a brother, Stanley Eldon Hulinsky; a sister, Edith Ann Burson; one nephew, Larry Allen Hulinsky; and three nieces, Katrina Marie Hulinsky, Carolyn (Cari) Joy Hulinsky and Kathy Jo Hulinsky.
