
Verda Rae Kozeal, 74, of Burwell Nebraska died peacefully Tuesday July 6, 2021 at her home surrounded by love.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday July 10, 2021at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Burwell with Father Scott Harter officiating. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell. There will be no visitation. The family asks that memorials be made to the Burwell American Legion. Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell is in charge of arrangements.
Verda was born October 26, 1946 to Hugh & Grayce (Hopkins) Starr in Burwell. On April 22, 1964 she married Donald “John” Kozeal in Akron, Colorado. They lived in Ft Morgan, Colorado and later moved to Burwell. They moved to O’Neill where Verda began to share her passion for cooking with the public. They moved back to Burwell and in 1997 she purchased her own cafe. Verda’s Cafe has become a well-known landmark in her hometown.
Verda enjoyed bowling, cooking, and casinos. She found most of her joy spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Verda’s faith in God was best expressed through her generous heart and selfless donations to those in need.
Verda is survived by her three children Terrie Kaiser of Burwell, Wanda and Brian Bowley of Burwell and Steve Kozeal of Taylor. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Brian Marr of Rosalie, sister Sabra and Larry Delp of Kingsville, Texas and brother Jim and Deb Starr of Taylor, Nebraska. She was blessed with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Verda is proceeded in death by her parents, her loving husband John, daughter Donna Marr, son Don Kozeal and grandson, Justin Kozeal.
She was adored by all.
