Donald “Don” George Dahlsten, 84, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, January 2, 2020.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 3,, 2021, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., at St. Theresa’s Parish Hall north of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Ericson.
Don was born on July 21, 1935, at Spalding, Nebraska. He was the oldest of seven children born to Peter and Effie (Cook) Dahlsten. He grew up on the Flying 7U Ranch in rural Ericson which is where he received his education at the local school. After graduation he continued to work on the family farm and ranch. On March 13, 1955, he married Myrtle Johnson at the Methodist Church in Ericson.
Don and Myrtle then moved to South Dakota where they started their family of four children, Brenda, Bryan, Rhonda, Robin. While in South Dakota he worked in construction and became a successful crane operator. In 1960, Don and Myrtle moved back to Ericson to help work on the family ranch. In 1965, Don took his family to Torrance, California which is where he got a job working as a supervisor at the Gardena Rubber Factory. He then decided to move his family back to North Loup, Nebraska and purchased DJ’s restaurant and Lounge.
In 1983, he sold his business DJ’s; and divorced. He then went back into construction working as a crane operator at the Calamus Dam and helped build Davis Creek. Following that he decided to go out of state to work various construction jobs in Texas, Arizona, California and New Mexico before moving back to Ord, Nebraska where he worked as a dam tender. He made his home on family land near Lake Ericson, which is where he met his wife Heather Tyson. They were married on January 24, 2011, to this union a son, Davidson Dahlsten was born.
Don enjoyed fishing and visiting outside with a view of the river. His greatest happiness was an afternoon ride on his Harley with a group of his buddies. Don will be remembered as a kind man who would do or give anything to anyone, he will be missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Heather; a daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda (Dahlsten) and Paul Bredthauer of Ord; a son, Robin “Chip” Dahlsten of Grizzly, California; a son, Davidson Dahlsten of South Dakota; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Broc and Jane Dahlsten of Ericson, and Mark and Glenda Dahlsten of Oregon; one sister, Bebe Dahlsten of Ericson; grandchildren, Sheena (Monty) DeBoer of Grand Island, Brian (Kelsey) Bredthauer of Phillips, Nicholas Rosseno of California, Kyle and Eric Bredthauer both of Grand Island, and Bethany Dalhlsten of California; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by parents, Peter and Effie Dahlsten; two sisters, Caroline Haith and Angelynn Dahlsten; a brother, Okie Dahlsten; a brother-in-law, Dick Haith; his daughter, Brenda Dahlsten Rosseno; his son, Bryan “Buck” Dahlsten; and a granddaughter, Katlynn Rosseno.
