William Byron “Ron” Cox, 74, of Burwell, Nebraska passed away at his home, surrounded by the loving company of his family, on June 3, 2021.
Born December 12, 1946 in Phoenix, Arizona to William and Aileen (Harris) Cox, Ron was raised in Benton, Arkansas. As a teenager, he and his family moved to Covina, California, where he graduated from Northview High School and met his future bride.
Ron married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Cox, on March 8, 1965 in St. George, Utah. They lived in Covina, California before building a home together in San Dimas, California in 1979. In 2005, they moved to Burwell, Nebraska.
Beneath his introspective, disciplined, and thoughtful nature, Ron had an adventurous spirit, sarcastic wit, and entrepreneurial grit. He started his own company running a successful machine shop, and was an avid pilot who spent countless hours in his Mooney airplane. Ron enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with his family. He was an active member and deacon of the Baptist Church, where he more recently found purpose as a youth group leader.
Ron was preceded in death by his father, William, his brother, Dain, and his son, Byron. He lives on through his wife Patty Cox, two children, Bill Cox and Cheri Sanchez (Michael Sanchez), and six grandchildren, Erika (Mark Petersen), Dana Cox, Elise Sanchez, Christian (Madison Sanchez), Emma Sanchez, and Hannah Sanchez. Ron is also survived by his mother, Aileen Cox, brother Dennis Cox (Katie Cox), and sister, Marcella Ono.
The family will have a Celebration of Life service at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 11, 2021 at the Burwell Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Joel Wentworth. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to the Burwell Baptist Church Youth Program.
