The RC&D Electronic Recycling Collection held Tuesday in O’Neill was deemed a success, multiple CRT Tv’s and other electronics were collected. “But we needed more room,” responds RC&D Member and volunteer coordinator for the event, Lynn Sobotka. “By 12:30 the tractor trailer was filled. Every Gaylord or cardboard box was packed tightly. Unfortunately we had to turn people away and that was very hard to do.”
“Because of the volume that wasn’t collected,” Kim Burge, RC&D Ex Dir commented, “we will explore other options that might be available. This FREE collection grant was very unique. We aren’t sure if we will be able to offer another free collection. If we can take the CRT TV’s in a recycling collection there could be a fee for each one. ”
RC&D worked within a Nebraska Environmental Trust grant awarded to Nebraska Recycling Council for this collection. Heather Creevan, Ex Director of the Nebraska Recycling Council. “Our goal was to collect CRT TV’s along with the normal electronic collection. O’Neill had a great success!! The Nebraska Environmental Trust grant was focused on collecting those old heavy TV’s that aren’t in use anymore. The grant afforded the opportunity for people to get rid of up to two tv’s per household for free. And by the results, those in and around O’Neill were waiting for this opportunity.”
Inspired by the need for electronics collections, the Stuart Recycling Center has added an electronics collection bin in their Recycling Building.
“It has been really nice to be included in the NRC grant, comments Chairman, Mike Burge. “This gave so many the opportunity to recycle without having to travel great distances themselves and with the grant, people could get rid of one or two old tube tv’s for free. We appreciate NRC including us in this opportunity. We will continue to have annual electronic collections, like we have done for the last 5 years. But it was nice to add the CRT TV collection in 2021. There were many volunteers, both at the Spencer and O’Neill location. The RC&D Members send heartfelt thank you’s to all of them.”
