Ruth Darlene Hoppes, 95, of Ord passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2021, at Sumner Place in Lincoln, Nebraska.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 19, 2021, at the Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ord with Pastor Glenda Pearson officiate. Inurnment will be at the Ord City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Ruth Hoppes Family to be determined at a later date. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Ruth Darlene Jorgensen was born on September 18, 1925, at the family home in Valley County, Nebraska to Henry and Dora (Christensen) Jorgensen. She received her education at Haskell Creek School where she excelled in the track and field events, especially the hurdles and high jump. She lived with her uncle and aunt; Walt and Mary during the week while in high school then returned home on Fridays to help her Dad on the farm to bring in the cows and do chores. Ruth graduated from Ord High School in 1942.
Ruth was united in marriage to Dale Clark Hoppes on July 9, 1944, at Smith Center, Kansas. The couple spent their married life in Ord where they raised their family. In 1962, Ruth began her career at the Valley County Hospital. She loved all the patients and co-workers, and her bedside manner and caring ways will be remembered by many. She was the purchasing agent for 15 years, and was voted by her co-workers as the “Employee of the year”. She attended the Caring Kind Award Banquet in Omaha where she was honored in 1991.
Following Dale’s passing on April 17, 2016; Ruth continued to live at home then moved to Grandview in September of 2016. She has resided at Sumner Place in Lincoln since November of 2020.
Ruth was a member of the Ord Presbyterian Church, and served on the Church board and later became a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church. She served on the Valley County Election Board and was involved with the Red Hat Ladies.
She was an avid Big Red Football Fan who loved decorating the house with Husker décor and watching Husker football and volleyball. She also enjoyed watching old westerns, Gun Smoke, Hallmark movies, Murder She Wrote and Lawrence Welk. Nat King Cole and old time country music were her favorite tunes to listen to. She had a special love for animals and bird watching. She especially enjoyed the family picnics in the park to celebrate their anniversary with all their family. Above all, Ruth’s family and grandchildren were the highlight of her life.
Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Clark and DyAnn of North Loup, Tim and Teresa, Morry and Dianne and Cohen and Becki all of Lincoln; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Larry Haste of Ord and Lisa and Barry Suelter of Fort Collins, Colorado; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Loy Smith of Boelus; and a cousin, Connie Wisch.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale; a son, Bob Hoppes; a grandson, Kelly Hoppes; two sisters, Alma Jorgensen and Roma Hoppes; and a brother, Everett Jorgensen.
