Aleta Rose (Nelson) Lowery, 83, of Burwell, Nebraska died February 20, 2021 at her home on the ranch north of Burwell.
Aleta was born to Walter & Gladys (Hackett) Nelson on May 7, 1937 north of Burwell at their home while the 5 older siblings were sent out to milk the cow. Her grade school years were spent at a country school called the Mayflower. Sunday school & church were attended at the Gold Standard School. She graduated from Burwell High School in 1954 with a normal teaching certificate.
On June 20, 1954, she was united in marriage to James “Jim” A. Lowery at the old Methodist Church in Burwell, to which 3 children were born, Debra Kay, Cynthia Jean, and James Allen. They lived on the homesteaded Lowery Ranch on the Cedar Creek Road until 1970. They then moved to their ranch north of Burwell where they have lived since.
Aleta loved her precious Lord & Savior Jesus Christ and talked to Him often on behalf of her many loved ones. She was loved and respected by everyone who knew her.
She had a love of music and cherished hearing her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren sing and play. She also enjoyed following them in their extracurricular activities. She participated in the Willing Helpers Extension Club and the Buzzin’ Duzzin’ Club. She also continued meeting with classmates for lunch bunch all the way up until recently. Some of her hobbies included baking and decorating cakes, gardening (she especially loved flowers), sewing, quilting, leather work, painting, and drawing.
Aleta’s table was always loaded with scrumptious food for anyone who arrived on her doorstep. Her family and the hay field crews could share with you lists of their favorites.
Jim & Aleta were blessed to enjoy 66 years of marriage.
Those left to treasure her memory are her husband, Jim Lowery of Burwell, children Deb (Rex) Kelley of Ord, Cindy (John) Seidel of Ainsworth, and James (Cassie) Lowery of Burwell, grandchildren Jennifer (Robert) Cook, Christine (Barry) Hemminger, Benjamin (Anne) Kelley, Dean (Ashley Peters) Kelley; Jonathan (Emily) Seidel, David (Heather) Seidel, Thomas (Joy) Seidel; Abigail (Kamron) Mowrey, Emma, Josiah, Elijah, & Alyssa Lowery, great-grandchildren Micheal, Cassie, Jacob, & Kelley Kaspar, Lucie & Emily Hemminger, Micheala & Bryant Kelley, Sutton & Shane Kelley, Raven (Corey) King, Sage, & Mazie Dasher; Kaden, Cyrus, Claire, & Cooper Seidel, Drew, Eli, & Samuel Seidel, Josie, Andrew, Tad, Daniel, Eden, Evy, Evan, Ephraim, Emsley, & baby Seidel; Hazel & Arabella Mowrey, sister Joy Guggenmos, sisters-in-law Louese Nelson, Darlene Tetschner, and Sandy Lowery and brother-in-law Mel (Shirley) Lowery.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Walter & Gladys Nelson, siblings Decklyn Nelson, Elwood “Woody” (Irene) Nelson, Zenn (Lowell) Thompson, Rene (Edwin) Fitzgibbons, Joyce Helmkamp, Blaine Nelson, and 3 infants, brothers-in-law Ray Guggenmos and Vernon “Zeke” Lowery.
She will be dearly missed!
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 25, 2021 at the First Christian Church in Burwell. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell. Pastor JB Sikes will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 – 7 p.m. at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. Memorials are suggested to Grace Family Fellowship.
