Jerald Donald Chaffin, 92, of Burwell, Nebraska died October 9, 2019 at Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell. He was born on September 11, 1927 to Orrin and Edith (Dickerson) Chaffin in Gables (Garfield County), Nebraska.
His family moved to Lincoln in 1940 and there he attended High School and graduated in 1945. Jerald entered the United States Navy on October 18, 1945: he served as a Fireman Second Class and was honorably discharged on July 19, 1946. He then attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and obtained a Bachelor of Science.
He lived in Lincoln until 1950 when he moved to Burwell. He managed Cass Construction. He served as the County Commissioner for 8 years; as a member of the Burwell School Board for 8 years; and as County Supervisor and Manager. He enjoyed fishing and his hobby was aviation. He also enjoyed watching and heckling his nephew, Steve, while he juggled.
Jerald married Rita Anderson on March 18, 1961 in Bellville, Kansas. They were married for fifty years. Rita preceded him in death on July 20, 2011. He was also proceeded in death by one son, Russ; his parents; and all of his siblings, including his twin brother, Gerald.
Jerald is survived by two of his sons, Jerry of Grantsville, Utah and Donald of Lincoln, Nebraska; one grandson, Dakota of Grantsville, Utah and one great-granddaughter, Paisley; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Jerald’s wishes were to be cremated. A graveside memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 24, 2020 at Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell. Pastor Dennis Davenport will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Burwell Veterans Park. Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell is in charge of arrangements.
