LaVerne Steven “Jr.” Jablonski, 91, lifelong resident of Valley County passed away on Monday, July 8, 2019, at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2019, at the Ord Memorial Chapel. Father Scott Harter will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. Military Honors will be presented by the Ord VFW Post #7029 and American Legion Post #38. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Donor’s Choice. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
LaVerne was born on August 1, 1927, on the family farm north of Elyria, Nebraska to Steve and Clara (Denny) Jablonski. He had a twin brother, LaVere and an older sister, Maxine. LaVerne grew up during the depression and drought of the 1930s. He attended District #60 grade school through the 8th grade, which was located in the back pasture. He continued his education at Elyria through the 10th grade and graduated from Ord High School in 1945. He played on two undefeated football teams including the Class B champions of 1943. He lived and worked on the family farm following high school.
After the outbreak of the Korean War, LaVerne enlisted in the United States Navy in March 1952, and was stationed in Chinhae, South Korea. There he met his future wife, Mimi and they were married on June 14, 1957.
LaVerne and Mimi made their home on the family farm by Elyria from 1957 until Mimi’s death in 1969. LaVerne continued to run the farm until he retired.
LaVerne was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed playing billiards, flying (Piper Cubs) and watching football and Nascar.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Sidney and Caroline Jablonski; a granddaughter, Liana Jablonski all of Elyria, NE; and nephews and nieces, Larry Hansen of Omaha, Steve Jablonski of Grand Junction, CO, Jerry Jablonski of Omaha, Joan Harmon of Lewisville, TX and Lance Jablonski of Rogers, AR.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mimi; a sister, Maxine Hansen and a brother, LaVere Jablonski.
