ORD, Neb. – Carol Schroeder, RN, Director of Valley County Health System (VCHS) Home Health and Hospice in Ord has been presented with the Outstanding Rural Health Achievement award by the Nebraska Rural Health Association.
The Outstanding Rural Health Achievement Award recognizes an individual in the health care industry for leadership and noteworthy initiative in promoting the development of community oriented rural health care delivery. She received the award at the Nebraska Rural Health Conference in Kearney on Apr. 24.
Schroeder’s nomination, submitted by VCHS coworkers, boasts her exceptional medical and patient care, as well as her community involvement.
“Carol is dedicated to enhancing the patient’s quality of life. She focuses on providing the highest quality care to patients,” said VCHS CEO Nancy Glaubke. “She is willing to take on very difficult and complex cases providing patients and their families the opportunity to be cared for at home.”
Joining VCHS in 2001, Schroeder has provided care to patients from more than a dozen counties. She and her team continue to fulfill the mission and vision of VCHS by providing quality, patient-centered healthcare to patients and their families. Schroeder not only manages her department as the Director but she carries a full case load as well. In 2008, she was the recipient of the Nebraska Hospice & Palliative Care “Shining Star” award, and in 2019 received the Nebraska Home Care Association’s “Hulda Osborn” award.
Outside of work, Schroeder and her husband Tom own and operate a restaurant and bakery called Danish Baker in Dannebrog, Nebraska. She also serves as Hospital Board Chairman for Howard County Medical Center.
“VCHS, our patients and our communities are so fortunate and thankful for Carol’s service and congratulate her on this well-deserved award,” Glaubke said.
