“Nebraska Bob” Knapp
Robert B. “Bob” Knapp, 81, of Ord passed away to his heavenly Home with his family singing Amazing Grace, and Do Lord Oh Do Lord, Oh Do you remember me on Saturday, April 6, 2019.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 on Wednesday, April 10, 2019, at the Evangelical Free Church in Ord. Reverend Tom Peyton and Reverend Doug Olson will officiate. Private Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Homeward Trail Bible Camp, Samaritan’s Purse or Nebraska Christian School. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Robert Burnell was born April 1, 1938, at the family home in North Loup, Nebraska to Ray and Dorothy (Nelson) Knapp. He lived in North Loup until 1941, when the family moved to the farm southeast of Ord. Bob received his education at Olean County School and graduated from Ord High School in 1956.
He continued his education at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in the Ag Department and then returned to the family farm. On November 11, 1961, Bob was united in marriage to Katherine Rose at the First United Methodist Church in Ord. The couple first lived in Ord, then southwest of Arcadia. In 1966, they settled on the farm southwest of Ord where they farmed and operated a cow-calf operation. Bob also worked for his brother, James, at Knapp Farms for 20 years.
As a young man, Bob accepted Christ as his personal Savior at a Youth for Christ meeting in North Loup. Bob grew up in the Methodist church in North Loup and later became a Charter member of the Ord Evangelical Free Church where he served in various capacities. He was a long time 4-H leader and enjoyed helping his kids and grandkids with their livestock projects. Bob served on the Farm Bureau Board, was an Awana leader, volunteer and counselor at Homeward Trail Bible Camp, and at the Navigator’s Colorado Springs, CO.
Bob’s biggest joy, was serving the Lord, his family, wagon trains and trail rides. He and his faithful horses, Bonner and Skeeter, rode many trails in the Midwest. He rode in the wagon trains at Bozeman, Oregon Trail, Devil’s Tower, Mormon Trail and was the stage coach driver in Glacier. Bob drove a team of horses in local parades and Cheyenne Frontier Days. For the past 10 years, Bob has enjoyed wintering in Arizona. He was awarded 1st Kernel at Pop Corn Days for his 25 years of giving horse drawn wagons rides.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Kathy of Ord; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Eric Knapp of New York City and Jay and Kay Knapp of Ord; a daughter, Jody Heuermann of Central City; Alan Heuermann of Houston, TX; five grandchildren, Curtis Heuermann and his wife, Joanna, Whitney Heuermann, and Austin, Mitchell and Adam Knapp; a sister and brother-in-law, Sharyll and Merrill Walkup of Runnels, Iowa; a brother and sister-in-law, James and Virginia Knapp of Ord; brother-in-law, Bob Rose and his wife, Helene of Buckeye, Arizona; and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
