Stella M. Shotkoski, 105, of Grand Island formerly of Ord passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at the Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 28, 2019; at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. Celebrants will be Father Bob Matya, Stella’s great-nephew and Father Mark Maresh. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. A Rosary will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and St. Mary’s Catholic School. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Stella Marie was born December 29, 1913, at Elyria, Nebraska to Thomas and Katherine (Papiernik) Zulkoski. She was raised in Elyria where she received her education and completed the 10th grade. Stella discontinued her education after her father’s death when she was needed at home. While in school she received many perfect attendance and spelling awards.
Stella worked in Ord for the Leggett Family, taking care of their children and home. On January 14, 1941, she was united in marriage to Sylvester J. Shotkoski and they started their own family.
Stella was an excellent seamstress and sewed many dresses for their three daughters. Ord was her home and after it sold, she resided at Parkview Village and then Grandview. In June of 2010, she moved to Wedgewood Care Center of Grand Island to be close to her daughter, Marlene.
Stella was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Altar Society and Does. She enjoyed her Pitch Card Club in Ord, Bingo at Wedgewood; and sewing and baking.
Survivors include three daughters and a son-in-law, Kathryn Ann Hettrick of Loveland, CO, Jeanette Marie Redies of Denver, CO and Marlene Mae and Terry Regan of Grand Island; six grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sylvester; a stillborn son, James Allen; grandchildren, Michael and Jill Kreizinger; two sons-in-law, John Hettrick and Charles Redies; and all of her 11 siblings.
