Marvin J. Bilka, of Ord passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at the Valley County Health System in Ord, Nebraska at the age of 87 years.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 28, 2025, at the Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ord, Nebraska. Vicar Abigail Vetick will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Ord Bohemian Cemetery. Military Honors will be presented by the Ord VFW Post #7029, American Legion Post #38 and Sons of the American Legion Post #38. Marvin John was born October 17, 1937, at Sargent, Nebraska to John J. and Emma (Fajmon) Bilka. He was raised on the family farm near Sargent and attended country school in Comstock then graduated from Comstock High School in 1956. While in school, Marvin was active in football, basketball and track.
In 1956, Marvin joined the United States Army, serving for 22 years in radio communications. While in Naha, Okinawa, Japan he met Michiko M. “Mickey” Miyagi. The couple was united in marriage on July 18, 1961, in Naha. They were blessed with four children, Deanna, Betty, Dwayne and Marty.
During Marvin’s Army career he was stationed within the States at Ft. Devens, Massachusetts, Ft. Lewis, Washington, Ft. Huachuca, Arizona, Ft. Benning, Georgia, Ft. Rucker, Alabama, Ft. Gordon, Georgia and Ft. Meade, Maryland. His overseas tours took him to Laos, Vietnam and Heidelberg, Germany during the Vietnam War.
While Marvin was stationed overseas, his family resided in Sargent and Ord, Nebraska. Following Marvin’s retirement from the Army in 1978, the family settled in Ord.
Marvin gave his life to Jesus Christ; he was baptized and a member of the Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was an avid outdoorsman and trapshooter. He enjoyed fishing, hunting doves and pheasants and driving his Farmall tractor in local parades.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Deanna and Dean Osentowski of Ord and Betty and Jim Ellsworth of Pennsylvania; a son, Dwayne Bilka of Ord; two grandchildren, Jared and Tiarra Osentowski and Jenna and Chad McGuire; and four great-grandchildren, Avari and Owen Osentowski and Talon and Eliza McGuire.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mickey; son, Marty Bilka; and two brother, Lambert and Benny Bilka.
Marvin had many friends that he enjoyed spending time with, including the staff at VCHS and Burwell CMHC. His family appreciates the care that was given to Marvin.
