Authorities have confirmed that the small plane that crashed into the Platte River near Fremont last Friday struck a power line before going down. According to preliminary findings from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the aircraft hit the power line while flying along the river around 8:15 p.m.
Three people were killed in the crash and were later identified as the pilot, 43-year-old Daniel Williams of Moundridge, Kansas, and passengers Jeff Bittinger, 50, and Randy Amrein, 47, both of Fremont. Their remains were recovered from the wreckage.
The NTSB stated on Wednesday that additional details will be included in a preliminary report, expected to be released within 30 days. The ongoing investigation is being handled by both the NTSB and FAA.
Emergency responders from Waterloo Fire and Rescue, the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, and Omaha Public Power District were among those at the crash site. A Valley Fire Department airboat was also deployed to assist in recovery efforts.
