JoAnna McBride of Sargent passed away on Monday, March 31, 2025, at CHI Immanuel Health in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 81.
JoAnn was born March 4, 1944, at Elyria, Nebraska to Joseph and Matilda (Bower) Mach. She was raised on the farm east of Sargent by her grandparents, Anna and John Mach. As a young girl, JoAnna only spoke in Czech, making it difficult when she moved to Burwell to attend school.
JoAnna married Charles Bush and the couple resided in Burwell. She later was united in marriage to Mavin K. McBride on January 15, 1965. The couple made their home in Burwell and settled in Sargent 1980, when they purchased their home and land.
While in Burwell, JoAnna spent her working years at Buck’s Bakery, she cleaned for Mid-Nebraska and cooked and cleaned at the Legion Club. After moving to Sargent she worked at the school as a janitor and cook and in the kitchen at the nursing home.
JoAnn was a very active member of the Assembly of God Church in Burwell. She was an animal lover, especially caring for her dogs and horses. She enjoyed gardening and going to coffee with the girls. JoAnna was dedicated to God and her family. Going to church and spending time with her children and grandchildren were the highlights of her life.
Survivors include her children; daughter, Barbara Pershing of Tulsa, Oklahoma; son, Michael (Lori) Bush of Arcadia; daughter, Teresa Meyer of York; sons, Marvin McBride, Jr. of Sargent, Mervin (Missy) McBride of Holstein and Melvin (Jennifer) McBride of Burwell; sixteen grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin K. McBride, Sr. who passed away on October 27, 2009; and three brothers, Leonard, Marvin and Alvin Mach.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, April 4, 2025, at New Hope Assembly of God Church in Burwell, Nebraska. Pastor Dave Busch will officiate. Interment will be in the Cottonwood Cemetery at Burwell. A visitation will be held on Friday at the church beginning at 1:00 p.m. until service time. Memorials are suggested to the New Hope Assembly of God Church or Family’s Choice. Still Waters Funeral Parlor is assisting the family.
