A Kearney man has been sentenced to prison following his conviction on child abuse charges. On February 6, a Buffalo County District Court judge sentenced 26-year-old Jacob Ellingson to eight to 20 years for attempted child abuse resulting in injury, along with an additional one to three years for intentional child abuse without injury. The sentences will run concurrently, meaning he must serve at least four years before being eligible for parole, in accordance with Nebraska state sentencing guidelines. Ellingson has already received credit for 511 days of jail time.
According to the Kearney Hub, police responded to a call on September 8, 2023, regarding a one-year-old girl who was having difficulty breathing. Due to the severity of her condition, she was transferred to Children’s Nebraska hospital in Omaha for further treatment.
Ellingson has a prior criminal record, having previously served a five-to-seven-year sentence in the Nebraska Department of Corrections for burglary. He began serving that sentence in 2019 and was released on parole in 2021.
