LINCOLN — This weekend, 29 or 30 Nebraska football players will participate in Senior Day ceremonies, though not all have finalized their decisions about the future of their college careers.
Some players will take part in the pregame recognition before the Wisconsin game as a precaution, in case they ultimately decide to leave. Nebraska currently lists 19 seniors on its roster, but many players have the option to use an extra year of eligibility granted during the COVID-19 pandemic. For example, offensive lineman Turner Corcoran could return for a sixth season in 2025 if he redshirts and does not play the remainder of this season.
Defensive lineman Jimari Butler and defensive back Marques Buford have already committed to returning for their sixth and fifth seasons, respectively. Their decisions reflect a broader trend among seniors, such as Ty Robinson, John Bullock, Isaac Gifford, Javin Wright, and Bryce Benhart, who have opted to delay professional opportunities to improve their stock and continue developing as players.
Starting safety DeShon Singleton, whose appeal for an additional year of eligibility following a season-ending injury against Michigan was denied by the NCAA, is expected to pursue the NFL. Singleton is Nebraska’s second-leading tackler this season with 56 stops and has been garnering attention from professional scouts.
As Senior Day approaches, Nebraska celebrates its veteran players while navigating the complexities of eligibility decisions and preparing for the remainder of the season.
