AURORA, Neb. – The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office has released the identities of two individuals who lost their lives in a crash north of Aurora on Monday.
According to the sheriff’s office, the collision occurred on Highway 14 when a southbound semi-truck collided with a northbound pickup truck.
The pickup’s driver, 42-year-old Nathan Omel, and a rear-seat passenger, 66-year-old Cynthia Omel, both from Grand Island, were pronounced dead at the scene.
A front-seat passenger in the pickup, 95-year-old Marion Omel, was transported to CHI Health St. Francis, where he remains hospitalized.
The semi-truck driver, a 34-year-old man from Kearney, was uninjured in the incident.
All individuals were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
Responding to the scene were the Aurora Police Department, Aurora Fire & Ambulance, and the Nebraska State Patrol.
