Vernon D. Grabowski, 91, of Burwell passed away on Friday, November 1, 2024, at the Regional Medical Center in Grand Island, Nebraska.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at Still Waters Funeral Parlor. Pastor Alan Petersen will officiate. Interment will be in the Ord City Cemetery. Military Honors will be presented by the Clifford Clark American Legion Post #298. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral parlor. Memorials are suggested to the Clifford Clark American Legion Post #298. Still Waters Funeral Parlor is assisting with the arrangements. Vernon Dale was born February 26, 1933, at Burwell, Nebraska to William R. and Ella (Kolar) Grabowski. He was raised on the family farm eight miles south of Burwell where he attended country school then graduated from Burwell High School in 1950.
Vernon served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. He was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Following the service he returned to Burwell. Vernon and Margaret Radil were married in 1957. The couple purchased a farm north of Burwell from Margaret’s aunt, Emma Radil. They were blessed with two daughters, Vernyce and Vaylene.
Vernon spent his entire life on the farm where he farmed, ranched and ran a feedlot. He and Margaret divorced in 1974. Vernon spent the remainder of his life with his significant other, Janey Jacobsen.
Vernon was a member of the of the American Legion. He was an avid horseman and rode until he was 91. He attended any type of sale or auction. Vernon enjoyed dancing, traveling and visiting with friends.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Vernyce and Will Weber and Vaylene Grabowski all of Burwell; significant other, Janey Jacobsen of Wolbach; Janey’s family that had a special family bond with Vernon; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant great-grandson, Alex Olcott; and a sister, Evelyn Hulinsky.
