Kathy was born in Burwell, Nebraska on June 9, 1950, to Oran W. “Bill” and Irma May (Cronk) Dimmitt. She was raised on the ranch outside of Burwell and received her education at Burwell, graduating from Burwell High School in 1968.
Kathy married Gene Harris of Taylor in 1970. To this union three children were born, Janel, Brandon and Holly. They spent their married years in Bridgeport, Broken Bow and Burwell.
Kathy loved being around people and spending time with her family. She was a housekeeper for many years, including being head of housekeeping at Jennie M. Melham Memorial Hospital in Broken Bow. After moving to Burwell, she owned the Elyria Bar for 4 years where she was loved by her clientele. She was known for cranking up the jukebox and providing a fun atmosphere and good food for all who patronized her establishment. On slow days, she enjoyed playing pitch with her customers.
After her divorce, she moved to Omaha where she worked at the apartment complex where she lived until retiring, when she moved to Columbus Nebraska. It was while there in 2020, that she was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. She battled this disease until the very end. Her family was fortunate that she was successful in stopping disease progression and that allowed extra time with her family. In 2023, she returned to her hometown of Burwell to be surrounded by her family and friends. She spent her last few months as a resident of the Burwell Community Memorial Health Center.
