A 37-year-old man from Texas lost his life in a plane crash on Monday near Norfolk Regional Airport. According to the Norfolk Police Division, Phillip K. Widner from Bedford, Texas, was piloting a twin-engine Beech C99 aircraft when it went down around 7:40 PM, approximately 1½ miles south of the airport’s runway.
Authorities reported that Widner was working for Ameriflight and was in the process of delivering packages to Omaha. He had landed at the airport at 7:09 PM and took off again at 7:35 PM, crashing just minutes later. Several witnesses were present during the incident.
This tragic crash marks the third fatal plane accident in northeast Nebraska within the past six weeks. On August 26, 73-year-old Joseph Rudloff from Norfolk died in a crash that occurred 4 miles southwest of Crofton in Knox County. On the same day, 79-year-old Charles Joseph Finck of Elk River, Minnesota, was killed in a crash in a field located about 7 miles north and 3 miles west of Wayne.
