GRAND ISLAND — A woman was arrested on charges of resisting arrest, public indecency, and assaulting a doctor by spitting in their face on the evening of Monday, September 23.
According to the Grand Island Police Department, officers were dispatched at 10:13 p.m. to a domestic disturbance in the 1300 block of South Sylvan St., where a woman was reported to be yelling.
The woman, later identified as Vanessa Hanson, was found to be behaving erratically, the GIPD stated. Initially, she provided several different names to the officers and exhibited aggressive behavior, clenching her fists and attempting to pull away when they tried to detain her.
Hanson resisted being placed in the back of a patrol vehicle by bracing against the door, and despite attempts by officers to deescalate the situation, she intentionally pulled her pants down, exposing herself in front of neighbors watching from their windows.
To gain compliance, officers ultimately used a knee strike to Hanson’s left thigh. She was then taken to St. Francis Medical Center for a medical assessment. While being evaluated, she spit in the doctor’s face, according to the GIPD.
After her medical clearance, Hanson was transported to the Hall County Department of Corrections, where she continued to fight with jail staff.
As a result, she was charged with obstruction, resisting arrest, public indecency, and third-degree assault on a healthcare professional.
