Janet was born on January 10, 1947, to Edwin and Mildred (Campbell) Lenz at Ord, Nebraska. She grew up on the family farm in Mira Valley, south of Ord. She attended District 10 Valleyside Country School and graduated from Ord High School in 1966. A devout Christian, she very rarely missed a Sunday church service at Mira Valley United Methodist Church. She always enjoyed dedicating time caring for the farm, especially with her notable love for horses and nature.
Janet was united in marriage to Richard E. Knapp on June 6, 1964, at Ord. This marriage included two children, Kevin and Kurtis. Janet worked at Valley County Hospital as a Nurse’s Aide following her high school graduation until she moved to Homeland, California in 1988, to help care for her parents. She worked at Southwest Cancer Care in California until she moved back to Nebraska in 2006, to be closer to family and enjoy the perks of being a grandma. While living in Grand Island, she greatly enjoyed working as an Assistant Teacher at the Trinity Lutheran School Rainbow Club. The hugs and conversations with the kids always made her day.
Janet was an avid bird watcher and always had food out for the birds and squirrels. She loved drinking tea and Tang while reading a good book from her countless bookshelves. She loved playing the organ and piano, and she was good at it too. Janet loved spending time with her grandkids, watching Husker athletics, playing solitaire, and doing the crosswords in the daily newspaper. She did all of this with her dog, Mocha by her side.
Janet is survived by her sons, Kevin Knapp of Ord and Kurtis (Brenda) Knapp of Grand Island; three grandchildren whom she cherished so greatly, Wyatt, Kelsey and Jacey Knapp; and brother, Eugene Lenz of Joplin, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents and infant brother, Allen.
