The Loup Trail Daughters of the American Revolution hosted the 40th annual quilt show July 24- 27th in the commons room at Burwell Jr-Sr High School. This year there were a variety of nearly 70 beautiful entries from area quilters and crafters. All of the winning quilters were honored with Loup Trail DAR Women in Arts award to help show an appreciation for the art of quilting or with certificated of winning their division. Cash prizes were given to many of the quilters from the Loup Trail Chapter. The quilt show was featured also on a Facebook livestream should those who could not attend the show wish to view the quilts.
Johnnie Meeks won Best of Show with her family history quilt that featured photographs and work done by her grandmother called Women of Legacy.
The People’s Choice award was won by Laurel Miller with her Tangled Shoelaces Challenge quilt that featured a multicolored design in blues accented by yellow, orange, and white. Miller was the runner-up in Pieced and Machine quilting with her Tonga’s Nature quilt.

Sharon Binfield won various areas that included: Pieced and Machine quilting with KT Raw Beauty, the craft area with a framed Christmas cross stitch, Wall Hangings with a piece called Pat Churn Dash, Table Topper with Christmas Bear Paw, and Table Runner with a piece called Pumpkin.
The Challenge division was won by Jeanne J Johnson quilt called Scrapping in blue. In the quilt challenges quilters were invited to work on a Blue themed quilt. The other entry in the quilt challenge competition featured: Coleen Hopkins, Laurel Miller, Nancy Zwingman, Peggy Ruzicka, and Ardith Davenport.
Sandy Lowery won the Mixed Media area with a photo quilt that displayed the horse-riding history of her granddaughter. Pat Mitchell display of a Heritage Afgan was the winner in Crocheting and Knitted.
Raeville Quilters won Pieced and Hand Quilted with the Apricot Jelly quilt done in a variety of soft tone pastels.
Judy Petersen’s 50 State quilt was the winner in the embroidery category. This quilt featured an American map in the middle and each of the states were featured with its own block. Petersen’s mother started the project, and she finished it with fabric the coordinated perfectly with each of the blocks.
Marcie Smith entered the winning pieced and tided quilt that was made by her mother and featured various vintage fabrics. Stacy Mitchell was the winner in the Crib and Juvenile themed quilts with Animal Baby Q that featured squares of animals that used embroidery and appliqué technique.
Hayden Maynard was the winner in the Spotlight on Teens division with a purple themed quilt that featured a longhorn made with appliqué technique. JJ Maynard placed 2nd with this red, white, and blue American Flag quilt
Pat Becklun was the winner of the Throw quilting area with her Circles quilt and Ardith Davenport placed 2nd with Leaf Print in Blue and Margaret Hensley was 3rd with Helix.
The antique quilts were displayed by the Cain Family in honor of Mary and Paul Cain, the Cain-Adams Family in honor of Frank Adams, and The Smith family in honor of Emma Peters.
Quilts or craft items by Nancy Striker, Stacy Ferrel, Kath Buelt, Chris Redding, Margie Gumb, Velma Cain, and Rho Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa Teacher Honorary were featured in various divisions as well.
