While living in Lincoln Clarence was engaged in various jobs and also purchased a large home which he remodeled and rented out. It was in Lincoln that Clarence began his career in the insurance industry; selling life insurance in the southeastern area of Nebraska.

In 1978, they settled in Burwell and purchased their farm northwest of Burwell in 1979. Clarence owned and operated Dey Insurance; farmed and raised cattle. Later in 1989, the couple purchased the Hotel & Café’ on the south side of the Burwell square. After they remodeled the building; they ran Vonna’s Place for 10 years; operated the Dey Insurance; and rented apartments until retirement in 2015.
Clarence was a “handy-man”; there wasn’t anything he couldn’t build or fix. He spent his free time welding, woodworking; and making toys. He was never without a project. Clarence was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 52 years, Vonna of Burwell; two nephews, Alan and Kristen Naber of Gresham and their children, Kurt, Sam and Megan and their families; and Ricky and Lucy Naber of Lincoln; a niece, Donna Sue Beck of David City; and a host of friends and neighbors.
