In Grand Island, Nebraska, a teen from the area facing charges related to a shooting in Railside last summer will see his case transferred to juvenile court.
As per Hall County District Court records, Judge Andrew Butler has approved the transfer motion for 16-year-old Isaac Ronquillo.
Ronquillo stands accused of two counts of attempted first-degree murder, three counts of using a deadly weapon to commit a felony, one count of unlawful discharge of a firearm, and one count of tampering with evidence.
The incident, occurring on July 13, 2023, on 3rd Street, involved Ronquillo, then 15, reportedly firing shots at a passing car while downtown with Jesus Patino. Subsequently, as per police statements, the car’s occupants fired back.
In making the decision, Judge Butler considered 15 factors outlined in Nebraska state statute, such as the circumstances of the offense, the juvenile’s best interests, and public safety implications.
The Court highlighted Ronquillo’s age and prior positive experiences with juvenile probation services.
“Mr. Ronquillo has an opportunity for rehabilitation, and the Court hopes Mr. Ronquillo will make the most of this chance,” the Court order stated.
The case will now proceed to juvenile court, where an arraignment date will be set.
Regarding other individuals involved, Jesus Patino has pleaded not guilty to one charge of tampering with evidence, with a jury trial scheduled for May 6 at 9 a.m. Sergio Munoz, the car’s driver, also faces a charge of tampering with evidence, with his case progressing through the courts and a hearing set for April 1.
