LaVerne T. “Ozzie” Osentowski, 87, of Ord passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at his home in Ord, Nebraska.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 4, 2024; at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Father Scott Harter will be the Celebrant. Inurnment will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. Military Honors will be presented by the Ord VFW Post #7029 and American Legion Post #38. The Rosary will be recited at 10: 00 a.m. on Monday at the Church. Memorials are suggested to Ord Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department or Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. LaVerne Thomas was born November 8, 1936, at Burwell, Nebraska to Thomas J. and Gertrude L. (Kapustka) Osentowski. He was raised on the family farm northwest of Ord and received his education at District #49 country school near Burwell.
In December of 1956, LaVerne enlisted in the United States Air Force where he was responsible for fueling planes; he served until February of 1959.
LaVerne spent his adult years doing what he enjoyed the most; ranching and farming. He was also employed by Marvin Scheideler and Valley County; operated the backhoe for Petska Plumbing; and owned his own backhoe business.
LaVerne was united in marriage to Evelyn R. (Bruha) Florian on November 19, 1965, at Ord, Nebraska. To this union two sons were born, Kevin and Bruce. LaVerne was also blessed with Evelyn’s four children, James, Jean, Diane and Jo.
LaVerne was a devoted member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. He enjoyed polka music and watching westerns and loved horses and riding horseback. His pride and joy were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Evelyn of Ord; two sons and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Christi Osentowski of Dannebrog and James Florian of Grand Island; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Jay Windreich of Bennington, Diane and Kevin O’Connor of Shepherd, Montana and Jo and Bill Trofholz of Elyria; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two sisters and brother-in-law, Ruth and Al Smith of Sargent and Geraldine Ptacnik of Bloomfield; a sister-in-law, Pauline Osentowski of Lincoln; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Kevin Osentowski; grandsons, Justin and Jeremy Osentowski; a sister and brother-in-law, Connie and Carl Mendyk; a brother, Clarence Osentowski; and a brother-in-law, Vernon Ptacnik.
