Sandra Kay “Sandy” Howard, 60, of rural Burwell passed away on Monday, January 8, 2024, at CHI St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
A private family burial will be held at Madison Square Cemetery in Loup County, Nebraska.

Sandra Kay was born October 29, 1963, at Burwell, Nebraska to Eugene and Darlene (Maxson) Swanson. She was raised on the family farm east of Burwell and received her education at Ord; graduating from Ord High School in 1982.
On September 22, 1984, Sandy was united in marriage to Johnny D. Howard at Taylor, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Taylor where they resided until moving to Sandy’s family farm east of Burwell. Sandy loved being on the farm; where they made their home for the past nine years.
Sandy worked in various capacities at the Burwell and Sargent nursing homes. She was a med aide, and also worked in the dietary and housekeeping departments. For many years she was the cook for Loup County School and was an EMT for 20 years on the Taylor Fire and Rescue Department.
Sandy enjoyed reading and embroidering.
Survivors include her husband, Johnny of rural Burwell; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lucus and Miranda of Aberdeen, South Dakota and Eric of Riverdale; a daughter, Kristen Howard of Merino, Colorado; two grandsons, Arlo Conner and Fletcher Howard; her sister, Suzanne Swanson of Grand Island; and a mother-in-law, Nelva Howard of rural Loup County.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and an infant daughter, Rachel Sue Howard.
