Carolyn Peterson, 93, of Ord passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2024; while residing at Arbor Care Center in Ord.
Mrs. Peterson’s wishes were to be cremated. A Celebration of Life has been postponed due to inclement weather. The future date has not been determined. Memorials are suggested to the Mira Valley Church or ALS Society. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements (www.ordmemorialchapel.com).
Carolyn Beth was born at her Mira Valley home to Will and Lillie (Cook) Foth on March 2, 1930. She attended Valleyside District #10 Country school from first grade through 10th grade and graduated from Ord High in 1947.
Carolyn attended Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa for 1 ½ years before marrying Bryan (Barney) Peterson, also of Mira Valley, in 1949.
Carolyn and Barney made their home in the Springdale area, where they farmed until 1959. Six children were born between 1950 and 1959. She would later say that being a mother was her greatest joy.
In 1959, they moved to Mira Valley, also farming and becoming involved in the feedlot business. Over the years Carolyn cooked meals for many hired hands, had large gardens, canned and froze produce, butchered chickens and put-up loads of sweet corn. No one was turned away from her kitchen table. Like most farm wives, she drove a truck when needed, did payroll, managed the business accounting, made many trips for parts, and took countless meals to the men in the fields.
Carolyn was a 4-H leader including teaching several young women how to sew, as well as her four daughters. Much of her life revolved around church activities including VBS, SS teacher and United Methodist Women; holding many offices. She was an active member of the Mira Valley United Methodist Church and the Korner Kutters Extension Club her entire life.
Carolyn was the keeper of the family genealogy documents and spent hours keeping in contact with relatives near and far. She truly enjoyed all of the connections.
She was a gentle, kind soul with great strength and faith. Carolyn was a remarkable woman who showed dignity for each person she encountered. She loved well and was very well loved. Her legacy lives on, as we will keep her in our hearts forever.
Left to remember her, are her children, Shirley Gailey of Keller, Texas, Dianne (Bruce) Worm of Ord, Dale (Jeanne) Peterson of Ord, Patty (Chuck) Setlik of Loup City and Nancy (Fred) of Wright, Kansas City, Missouri; a daughter-in-law, Christy (Brian Feis) Peterson of Burwell; grandchildren, Kim Gailey, Kurt (Amber) Gailey, Amy (Craig) Stokebrand, Nathan (Susie) Worm, Shannon (Scott) Bruha, Jess Peterson, Heidi (Shane) Arduser, Kellie (Nick) Reed, Alisha (Brad) Welniak, Doug (Joy) Setlik, Tim (Becky) Setlik, Carrie Setlik, Erin (Graham) Wright, Cooper Wright, Cordell Wright, Sarah (Carl) Pelster, Katie (Aaron) Hedlund, Megan (Javi) Peterson, and Robbie Peterson; 33 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
