Sharon Lea Boucher, 79, of Burwell, Nebraska died October 6, 2023 at the Arbor Care Center in Ord, Nebraska, after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 13, 2023 at Calamus Trinity Methodist Church in Burwell, Nebraska. Pastor Serene Samuel will officiate. A memorial visitation will be Thursday from 6 – 8 p.m. at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the local organization “4 The Cure.”
Sharon was born February 7, 1944 in rural Sherman County, Nebraska to John P. and Dorothy H. (Winkler) Hehnke. She graduated from Ravenna High School in 1962. Sharon then attended school at Lincoln School of Commerce and was a secretary in Lincoln. She married Allen “Red” Boucher in Ravenna, Nebraska on June 21, 1964. They made their home in Burwell.
Sharon worked part-time at Burwell Public Schools in the school kitchen. After the children were in school, Sharon worked at the Bank of Burwell, finishing her career as Assistant Vice President. Sharon was then elected as the Garfield County Assessor and later served as the Assessor for Garfield, Greeley and Sherman counties concurrently. She was on the city council and was appointed as the first female mayor of Burwell. Sharon was the consummate homemaker maintaining a large garden, canning vegetables, baking bread and making wine. Nothing was more important to Sharon than her family and she was a great protector of her children and grandchildren.
Sharon is survived by her husband Red Boucher of Burwell, Nebraska. Three children, Aub and Lisa Boucher of Juniata, Nebraska, Deeny and Jeff Nielsen of Nebraska City, Nebraska and Holly Boucher of Lincoln and fiancée Corey Palmer of Ainsworth. Sharon has six grandchildren, Brook (Tannor) Mroczek, Boston Boucher, Morgan (Neil) Hannah, Lucas Nielsen, Ashlea Heyen and Anna Heyen. She also has two great-grandchildren, Madalin Hannah and Auggie Mroczek.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Blaine Hehnke, Dal Hehnke, and Errol Hehnke and a nephew, Johnny Hehnke.
