Darles Boyce, 78, of North Loup passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2023; at Arbor Care Center in Ord.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023; at the North Loup United Methodist Church. Pastor Arsene Lumami will officiate. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery at North Loup. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel. Memorials are suggested to Loup Valley Veterans Wall or the North Loup-Scotia Rescue Unit. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements (www.ordmemorialchapel.com).
Darles was born April 9, 1945, at Winner, South Dakota to Doris and Luella (Chetalet) Turney. She grew up on the family farm in south central South Dakota, 40 miles from the nearest three towns and received her education at Todd County High School at Mission, South Dakota.
Darles worked as a waitress at the OK Café’ in Valentine, Nebraska. This is where she met Ronnie L. Boyce. The couple was united in marriage on June 26, 1964, at Pierre, South Dakota. They resided at Glen Elder, Kansas until 1967, when they settled on farms southwest of North Loup, Nebraska. They farmed, milked cows, fed cattle; and raised corn, alfalfa and beans.
Darles helped on the family farm while raising her family of four. She was a helper at the North Loup Headstart when her kids were young.
She was a member of the Neighborly Helper Club. Darles will be remembered as a good cook. Her specialty was meat, potatoes and gravy. She also baked kolaches, canned vegetables from her garden and made choke cherry jelly. Darles enjoyed hunting and fishing; and loved her dogs, especially her childhood dog, Brownie. She also enjoyed time spent with her family and attending their activities and events.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Wanda Barker and her significant other, Mike Drake both of Sargent and Marcia and Mark Kuszak of Loup City; two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Shey and Tony and Angie all of North Loup; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 expectant great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Faye and Richard Bachelor of Valentine and Anna Wade of Sikeston, Missouri; and her loving caretaker, Deb Thompson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ronnie; an infant son, Dale Gean; a son-in-law, Keith Barker; granddaughter, Laci Lea Barker; sister, Alma Lundberg; and a brother, Bob Turney.
