You can always tell when the Progressive Agriculture Farm Safety Day is happening in Ord. The Valley County Fairgrounds is packed, more people are in town taking care of business and shopping on that day, and the per capita number of children in the area escalates exponentially. For the past 26 years, the much anticipated annual event just keeps getting bigger and better.
The Progressive Agriculture Farm Safety Day is open to youth from kindergarten through sixth grade. Since its beginning, the event has drawn more than 4,466 children and nearly 1,000 volunteers over the years.
This year, Safety Day was held on Tue., June 6, and something special was added. Cargill, Inc. received recognition for partnering with this effort from the very beginning and for their commitment to safety education for our entire area. Cargill, Inc. has logged 10,956 days without a reportable injury. That’s over 30 years, folks….pretty impressive.
Through the Cargill Cares grant, their financial contributions have covered the registration fees making it possible for every child to attend free of charge. In addition, GreenAmerica Biofuels-Ord generously provided lunch for the crowd and the Loup Valley Ag Society donated the use of the fairground facilities.
Farm Safety Board member, Gene Wray, served as emcee for the presentation. In his remarks, he mentioned, “Cargill is being recognized today, but there are many members of the Central Nebraska Farm Safety 4 Just Kids Chapter, local businesses, and super volunteers who make this event possible. Through these generous contributions, the education provided has enhanced the health and safety of children and families and, perhaps, saved lives.”
“This is the mission of the Progressive Agriculture Farm Safety Day,” he continued. “We cannot adequately express our appreciation for the tremendous support of Cargill and so many other businesses and individuals.”
On hand to receive the recognition award from Cargill, Inc. were: Bill Kriefels, Ord Plant Manager; Mike Connely, Farm Relationship Manager; Mary Ross, Grain Originations Specialist; and Jo Moraczewski, Senior Customer Service Representative. Presenting the award was Ashley Jeffres, President of the Farm Safety Board.
The recognition plaque read: “Central Nebraska, Farm Safety 4 Just Kids hereby recognizes Cargill, Inc. for their long-standing contributions to the Progressive Agriculture Safety Days in Ord, NE.”
