Kenneth Alvin Jurgensen, age 92, of Burwell, died on March 28, 2023 at the Burwell Community Memorial Health Center.
Services will be held on Saturday, April 8th, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Burwell. Pastor Alan Petersen will officiate. Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell is in charge of arrangements.
Ken was born on May 1, 1930 in Burwell, NE. He was the son of Harley & Emma (Krisch) Jurgensen. He attended Burwell High School and graduated in 1947. After graduation, he lived and worked in Burwell until entering the Marine Corps in 1952 where he served for two years during the Korean War.
After the service, Ken returned to Burwell and married Yvonne Miller on August 11, 1957. He spent his working years as an employee of Burwell Plumbing, Andersen Electric, and was a supervisor for the Nebraska Department of Roads. He was also a handyman who helped with many DIY projects.
He enjoyed the outdoors immensely. His favorite hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening, and bird watching. He was a member of the American Legion Post 298 and served on the Burwell volunteer Fire Department for over twenty-five years.
Survivors include his son, Micheal (Teresa) Jurgensen, of Shelby; a daughter, Shelli Spencer, of Burwell; and son, Brad (Jill) Jurgensen, of Lincoln. He also had eight grandchildren: Nicole, Kristina, and Nathan; Jacobi and Jillian; and Benjamin, Max, and Jack, as well as eight great-grandchildren: Landon, Hudson, Addalyn, Kyler, Kaden, Jackson, Kinsleigh, and Kamden. He is also survived by two brothers, Ron (Carleen) Jurgensen and Rolland “Doc” (Lois) Jurgensen and two sisters, Dorothy Brockman and Sheryl (Bill) Holt.
Ken was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vonnie; his parents; and three brothers: Harold, Harley Jr., and Jerry.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Legion Post 298.
