Laura Adeline “Scotty” Roberts, 94, of Burwell, Nebraska died September 15, 2022 at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 26, 2022 at the United Methodist Church in Burwell. Inurnment will be in Cottonwood Cemetery. Pastor Serene Samuel and Pastor Marshall Smith will officiate. A memorial visitation will be Sunday from 5 – 7 p.m. at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Women or the Legion Auxiliary.
Scotty was born February 6, 1928 in Hay Springs, Nebraska to John and Vena (Hanks) Schildhauer. Scotty graduated from Hay Springs High School in 1945.
Scotty married James “Jim” Roberts on June 20, 1947 in Chadron, Nebraska. They farmed in Hay Springs. In 1955 they moved to O’Neill, Nebraska, where Jim starting working for the brand committee. Then in 1956 they moved to Ogallala, Nebraska. Scotty worked at the Veternary clinic. In 1962 they moved to Burwell. Scotty worked at Norlands, Bristol Jewelry, Burwell Tribune, House of Fashions and the Burwell Livestock market on sale day. Jim died on June 25, 2020.
Scotty enjoyed playing cards, shopping for clothes and quilting. She was a member of the Buzzin Duzzin Club, chairperson of the Blood Mobile and the United Methodist Church, where she was very active with the UMW.
Scotty is survived by three sons, Ken and Beth Roberts of Hildreth, Nebraska, Doug Roberts of Pueblo, Colorado and Dewey and Melodie Roberts of Burwell, Nebraska. Six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Scotty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, Leola Gratham and a brother Leo Schildhauer.
