The Willa Cather Childhood Home in Red Cloud will be closed beginning on August 15 for its first comprehensive restoration in over fifty years. This renovation is being made possible by Save America’s Treasures a grant that is administered by the National Park Service and is being matched dollar for dollar by private fundraising efforts. The Willa Cather Home is one of only 22 National Historic Landmarks in Nebraska as it is associated with the life of one of America’s greatest novelists. The home was first restored by the Willa Cather Center and opened to visitors starting in 1967. It was later gifted to the Nebraska State Historical Society in 1978. This renovation will ensure the site is preserved as a cultural attraction for generations to come.
