Sylva Marie Buoy Dixon, 95, of Burwell, Nebraska died July 29, 2022 at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 4, 2022 at the Burwell Baptist Church in Burwell. Burial will be in the Rose Cemetery. Pastor Dave Moody and Pastor Stan Gurney will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Memorials are suggested to the Gracy Fire District. Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell is in charge of arrangements.
Sylva was born October 21, 1926 to Leonard and Maude (Lane) Forbes at home in Rock County, Nebraska. Sylva graduated from Rock County High School in Bassett. After graduation she earned her teaching certificate and taught school.
On October 21, 1946 she married Roy Buoy in Kansas City, Missouri. They lived on the ranch in southern Rock County. Sylva went to nursing school and received her LPN degree. She worked as a nurse until Roy’s health started to fail. Roy died on October 25, 1996.
Sylva married Fred Dixon on April 25, 1998 in Kearney, Nebraska. They made their home at Lisco, Nebraska. Fred died on February 24, 2002. Sylva then lived in the Holdrege and Burwell areas.
Sylva enjoyed the ranch life. She did handywork making blankets, embroidered, crocheted, and enjoyed reading farm and ranch magazines. She said her nursing profession was very rewarding for her.
Sylva is survived by a daughter, Reta Burwell of Kearney, Nebraska and a son, Darrell and Shari Buoy of Burwell, Nebraska. A daughter-in-law, Bunny Buoy of Rosharon, Texas. Nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Agnes Frahm of Chambers, Nebraska and Ferne Briggs of Atkinson, Nebraska, a sister-in-law, Elva Buoy of Long Pine, Nebraska and many nieces and nephews.
Sylva was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, a son, Donn Buoy, two sisters, Mildred Welton and Lenora Meyer and a brother, Raymond Forbes.
