Wanita Louise Petersen, 85, of Burwell, Nebraska died June 29, 2022 at the Arbor Care Center in Ord, Nebraska
A memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 7, 2022 at the First Christian Church in Burwell. Inurment will be in Cottonwood Cemetery. Pastor JB Sikes will officiate. Memorials are suggested to the Burwell Legion Auxiliary. Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell is in charge of arrangements.
Wanita was born May 23, 1937 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Howard and Rennata (Steinmeyer) Benson.
Wanita married Varley Petersen on December 28, 1958 in Burwell. In 1964 then moved to Ord, Nebraska until 1967, when they moved back to Burwell.
Wanita was the cook at the Burwell Legion for nearly fifty years. She was famous for her potato salad. Wanita enjoyed watching squirrels and driving around to see the eagles and other wildlife and she liked to fish. She was proud to be a part of the making and serving the Christmas meal to the Mid Nebraska residents in Ord each year.
Varley died on March 1, 2013.
Wanita is survived by two sons, Merl and Julie Petersen of Delrio, Tennessee and Norval Petersen of Burwell, Nebraska. Two grandchildren, Andrew and Randi Gould and Tara and Richard Page and two great-grandchildren, Daniel and Jorja Gould and two step-greatgrandchildren, Ricky and Austin Page.
Wantia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, Howard Benson, Jr. and a sister, Deanna Sich.
